Stephen A. Comunale, Jr. Family Cancer Foundation
Since the Foundation’s inception, we have donated over $3.2 million to assist more than 28,000 Akron-area individuals and families touched by cancer. Our Grant Giving Program is designed to react quickly to alleviate day-to-day financial burdens. By alleviating such stressors, the Foundation’s efforts allow families coping with a cancer diagnosis to focus on what is most important – the emotional and physical care of the family member afflicted with cancer. The Foundation is significant to us in memorializing Stephen Comunale, Amy Comunale Klein, Jane Comunale, and Jeff Klein.
As a non-profit, no-kill shelter, LCHS depends on the generosity of our community to give Licking County’s homeless and abused animals the life they deserve. We listen and respond to the needs of people who surrender animals to us, adopt from us, report abuse to us, use our services, work and volunteer for us. As one of Central Ohio's premier and best-run shelters, LCHS also provides service to other animal welfare organizations that turn to us for help. LCHS is significant to us for taking in Miss Millie as a puppy until she found her forever home with us.
WABL (West Akron Baseball & Softball League)
WABL is a nonprofit, volunteer based organization that exists to provide community-based recreation leagues for baseball, softball, and co-ed T-Ball for youth in Akron. Contributions and team sponsorships make the league a low-cost and accessible summertime activity for all West Akron children. WABL is significant to us for the years of service Anna's uncles and grandfather have given the organization and their positive impact on the community.
International Charities
Stichting Nationale Dierenzorg
Stichting Nationale Dierenzorg (NDZ) - The National Animal Care Foundation - is the dog and cat shelter serving South Holland. They offer a variety of services including rehoming, the oldest "retirement home" for dogs, and animal ambulance service. NDZ is located just around the corner from our house, and we remind Millie & Walter not every dog is as lucky as they are, but we can help ensure their chances at a better life.
AI for Good is driving forward technological solutions that measure and advance the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. We create impact by bringing together a broad network of interdisciplinary researchers, nonprofits, governments, and corporate actors to identify, prototype and scale solutions that engender positive change. Our goal is to make sure the people who are driven to change the world have open access to the latest tools and technologies. AI for Good is significant in advancing Dave's work to develop innovative solutions for critical world problems.
Additional Gift Giving
If in lieu of a charitable contribution you would like to make a gift to us directly, we ask that you contribute to our home project fund. We have loved doing renovation projects together, turning our Dutch house into our forever home. Our next project will be updating the backyard: expanding the garden (for Anna), building an outdoor dining area (for Dave), and upgrading our dog play area (for Millie & Walter).
